Indonesia travel guide
Why Indonesia is worth the trip
Bali is a small island with a lot in it: beaches and cliffs in the south, rice terraces and jungle around Ubud, volcanoes and lakes in the hills, and Hindu temples everywhere. For travellers from Nepal the temples, festivals and daily flower offerings feel familiar, and hotels, food and spas are good value.
Five days covers the main sights from one hotel. With six or seven days you can add Nusa Penida, the Gili Islands or a slower stay in Ubud. Roads are busy and traffic is slow, so we keep hotel changes to one or two.

Getting to Bali from Nepal
There is no direct flight from Kathmandu. Most routes stop once in Kuala Lumpur, Singapore or Bangkok and land at Denpasar (DPS), Bali's only international airport. It is a long travel day, so we look for a short layover and can add the flights to your package.
Before you fly
Nepali passport holders need an Indonesia e-visa approved before departure; there is no visa on arrival for Nepal. Your passport must be valid for at least six months. Every traveller, children included, also pays the Bali tourist levy online and fills in the All Indonesia arrival form in the three days before landing. We send a simple checklist with your booking.
Visiting Bali's temples
Wear a sarong and sash at every temple (most lend them at the gate), cover shoulders and knees, do not step on offerings and stay out of areas kept for prayer. Women who are menstruating are asked not to enter.
Best time to visit Bali
The dry season, April to October, is the best time for Bali, with sunny days and calm seas for Nusa Penida and the Gili Islands. May, June and September are dry but quieter than July and August. November to March is the rainy season: showers are usually short and prices lower, but boat trips are sometimes cancelled. On Nyepi, the Balinese day of silence in March, the airport and the whole island close for 24 hours.
