China travel guide
Why China is worth the trip
China is huge, so most trips focus on one or two regions. Beijing has the Forbidden City and the Great Wall, Shanghai the Bund and its skyline, Xi'an the Terracotta Warriors, and Guilin the river scenery printed on the 20-yuan note. Fast bullet trains link the main cities, and hotels and food are good value.
Five days covers one city well, such as Beijing or Shanghai. A week covers Beijing and Shanghai together, and ten days adds Xi'an and Guilin. For nature, Zhangjiajie, Guilin and Yunnan are the highlights.

Before you fly
Nepali passport holders need a China tourist visa from the embassy before travel, and it is included in all our China packages. Your passport must be valid for six months. Google, WhatsApp and Facebook are blocked, so set up an eSIM with a VPN, and link Alipay or WeChat Pay to your card, because most shops do not take cash or foreign cards.
Getting around
Bullet trains connect Beijing, Shanghai, Xi'an and many other cities quickly and comfortably. Your passport is your train ticket and is checked at most sights, so keep it with you every day.
Best time to visit China
April to May and September to October are the best times for most of China: mild, dry and clear. Summer (June to August) is hot and humid with more rain, and winter is cold in Beijing but fine for Yunnan and the south. Avoid Chinese New Year (late January or February) and Golden Week (1–7 October), when trains and sights are very crowded.
