Switzerland travel guide
Why Switzerland is worth the trip
Switzerland is Europe's mountain country: snow peaks, clear lakes, cable cars and neat old towns like Lucerne, Bern and Zurich. Most trips from Nepal combine it with Paris or Italy, and one Schengen visa covers all of them.
Five days covers Paris and a taste of Switzerland. Eight to ten days lets you add the Swiss Alps properly, Italy or Amsterdam. For the biggest picture, our 12-day grand tour covers eight countries with Indian meals.
Which Europe tour is right for you?
- Short trip: Paris & Switzerland, 5 days
- More Alps: Switzerland & Paris, 8 days
- Italy and the Alps: Italy & Switzerland, 9 days
- Classic route: Italy, Switzerland & Paris, 10 days
- Western Europe: Amsterdam, Belgium, Paris & Switzerland, 10 days
- Grand tour: Europe Grand Tour with Mount Titlis, 12 days
The Schengen visa
Nepali passport holders need a Schengen visa, which covers Switzerland, France, Italy, the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany and Austria. It is included in our Europe packages. You attend the appointment in person with bank statements, job or business proof, tax papers and travel insurance; our visa team prepares the file and books the slot. Apply 6 to 8 weeks before travel.
Money and getting around
Switzerland uses the Swiss franc, while France, Italy and most neighbours use the euro; cards work almost everywhere. Trains and coaches link the cities, and mountain cable cars are the highlight of any Swiss day. Switzerland is expensive, so budget extra for lunches and coffee.
Best time to visit Switzerland
May to September is the best time for a Switzerland and Europe tour: long days, mild weather and all mountain cable cars running. April and October are quieter and cheaper but cooler. December to March is for snow, skiing and Christmas markets, though some high passes close.
