Why Japan is worth the trip
Japan mixes the very old and the very new: neon-lit Tokyo and quiet temples, bullet trains and tea ceremonies, all in one of the cleanest and safest countries in the world. Mount Fuji, the shrines of Kyoto and the food of Osaka are the highlights of a first trip.
Five or six days covers Tokyo and Mount Fuji. With eight days you can add Osaka and Kyoto by bullet train, flying into Tokyo and home from Osaka.
Which Japan package is right for you?
- Short trip: Tokyo & Mount Fuji, 5 days
- More time in the mountains: Tokyo, Mount Fuji & Hakone, 6 days
- Classic route: Tokyo, Osaka & Kyoto, 8 days
Before you fly
Nepali passport holders need a Japan tourist visa from the embassy, and it is included in our Japan packages. Apply at least a month before travel, with bank statements and your itinerary. Japan is still fairly cash-based, so carry some yen, and get a travel card such as Suica for trains.
Local manners
Speak quietly on trains, don't eat while walking in busy streets, take off your shoes where you see a step up at the entrance, and don't tip; good service is expected, not paid extra.
Best time to visit Japan
Spring (late March to May) brings cherry blossoms and mild weather, and autumn (October to November) brings red and gold leaves and the clearest views of Mount Fuji. Summer is hot, humid and rainy in June and July; winter is cold but clear, good for Fuji views and hot springs. Avoid Golden Week (late April to early May), when Japan itself is on holiday.
